Pillar 02 of 07 · Malaria Prevention
Malaria prevention and case management
Nexacare supports malaria prevention, early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and community-level action to reduce illness among children, pregnant women, and underserved populations.
What this pillar means
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of childhood and maternal illness in Nigeria. Our pillar work is aligned with the National Malaria Elimination Programme and World Health Organization guidelines. The focus is on test-then-treat discipline, intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy, insecticide-treated net access, and community case management.
How we work
- Test-then-treat discipline at the OPD bench, using mRDT before ACT.
- IPTp counselling and delivery at every eligible ANC contact from the second trimester.
- ITN access through facility and community channels.
- Community case management of malaria in children under five.
- Supportive supervision aligned with NMEP standards.
- Pharmacovigilance for antimalarials.
- Recognition of severe malaria and pre-referral treatment.
