A skilled birth attendant, a doctor, nurse, midwife, or community health extension worker with the right training, is one of the strongest predictors of safe delivery for both mother and newborn. Nigeria has made progress on skilled birth attendance over the past two decades, but coverage in northern states still lags national averages.
At Nexacare we support primary healthcare facilities and the wider system to expand access to skilled care during labour, delivery, and the immediate postnatal period. The work involves coordinating with State Ministries of Health, supporting facility readiness, engaging traditional and religious leadership on demand-side awareness, and contributing data discipline that helps the system see where gaps remain.
Every mother deserves a skilled attendant. Every birth deserves a safe start.
