Did you know – child survival in northern Nigeria

Did you know that the under-five mortality rate in Nigeria varies widely by region, with northern states often facing the highest rates? The drivers are well understood: limited access to skilled birth attendance; gaps in routine immunisation coverage; the burden of malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhoea; and the longstanding underinvestment in primary healthcare.

The interventions that change this picture are also well understood. Reach every child with routine immunisation. Support every pregnancy with the full eight-contact ANC bundle. Treat malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhoea promptly with the right tools. Empower mothers, families, and communities with the information and the choice to seek care early.

Nexacare works on these interventions every day, in nine northern states, with State and Local Government partners and the communities they serve. Child survival is the priority. Sustained, dignified, evidence-grounded action is the path.
