Malaria prevention and case management
What this pillar means
Malaria remains one of the leading causes of childhood and maternal illness in Nigeria. Our pillar work is aligned with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and World Health Organization guidelines, focused on test-then-treat discipline, intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp), insecticide-treated net (ITN) access, and community case management.
How we work
- Test-then-treat discipline at the OPD bench (mRDT before ACT)
- IPTp counselling and delivery at every eligible ANC contact from second trimester
- ITN access through facility and community channels
- Community case management of malaria in under-fives
- Supportive supervision aligned with NMEP standards
- Pharmacovigilance for antimalarials
- Recognition of severe malaria and pre-referral treatment
